A Primer for College Presidents (and Trustees)
Hull, Roger H.
Trusteeship, v16 n5 p31-33 Sep-Oct 2008
After becoming a college trustee at 27 years old, this author saw the harm that former presidents could cause. Later, when that trusteeship led him to switch careers and ultimately become the president of two institutions, he promised himself he would never make the mistake of hanging on too long or interfering with a successor's decision making. During his 24 years as a college president, he did develop several guiding principles that might prove useful to today's presidents and trustees. They might even help prevent a few wheels from being reinvented. In this article, the author shares some points that helped him tackle what, for him, was the best job in the world.
