Campus law enforcement faces unique challenges, as there are different societal expectations compared to municipal law enforcement. Municipal law enforcement models typically focus on traditionally reactive law and order, while campus law enforcement models typically focus on proactive responses to crime and its deterrence. Stressors experienced by campus police administrators are different than the stressors of municipal police administrators. Taken together, it is logical to suggest that the methods of coping used by campus police administrators will be different from their community law enforcement counterparts. To this end, this study examines the type of coping strategies reported to be used by campus police administrators. A random sample study of campus police chiefs and directors of public safety/security was conducted through the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) by the authors. This research study included 44 police chiefs who manage police officers employed by various universities throughout the United States. Responses were examined in terms of percentage categories. The research results provide some interesting insights and are of concern to the health of the campus police chiefs and directors nationwide. (Contains 2 tables and 6 notes.)
