This document is an updated edition of an annual publication of the "Directory of Physics and Astronomy Staff Members," published by the American Institute of Physics, and covers the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. The directory contains 10 parts and 7 appendices. Part I through Part IV include the geographic listing of academic institutions and faculty for the above mentioned countries. Part V through Part X have the following information: (1) alphabetical listing of installations and staffs of Federally Funded Research and Development Centers in the U.S.; (2) alphabetical listing by agency, installation and staffs of U.S. Government Laboratories; (3) alphabetical listing of academic and research center staff; (4) alphabetical listing of academic institutions; (5) alphabetical listing of U.S. Government Research and Development Centers; and (6) laboratories. The 7 appendices contain the following information: (1) number of institutions by type of physics and astronomy programs offered and number of faculty by rank; (2) alphabetic lists by country and state showing numbers of staff and institutions by type of highest program offered; (3) type of U.S. institutions and source of support; (4) institutions granted largest number of doctorates and baccalaureates in 1975-1976; (5) research programs of doctoral institutions; and (6) areas of concentration of master's programs.
