The Household Energy Game has been developed to provide some indication of energy use and individual management. The game is divided into two sections. In the first section, one is to devise one's own energy budget. Energy use is calculated in the areas of transportation, heating, hot water, air conditioning, and appliances. In each of these major categories, factors influencing that particular energy need are indicated. After selecting figures for one's energy consumption from the accompanying chart, instructions are provided for transferring them to a tally sheet, and then to a grid. To avoid confusion, the various energy units are represented by "squares." Energy "squares" can be translated into dollars. Having devised an energy budget, one can see where one's energy consumption stands in relation to the average American household. Part two is concerned with ways to modify a budget to save energy. Using the tally sheet, points are listed for energy conservation in each of the categories, after receiving the energy saving measures given. The revised energy budget can be recorded on the grid. The grid also indicates average American household consumption for 1975 and 1955, and the present world consumption for purposes of comparison with one's budget. (BP)
