Journal of College Reading and Learning, v45 n1 p20-34 2014
The Learning Center (TLC) at Mississippi State University (MSU) is an academic support unit designed to help students improve their academic performance. One of the programs offered by TLC is the Learning Skills Support Program (LSSP), which is designed for academically suspended students. The Center has traditionally used the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) to determine the awareness and reported use of study skills of students enrolled in the LSSP. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the LSSP students improved in their awareness of study habits and academic mindsets by analyzing their LASSI scores. The researchers addressed the following questions: (a) whether there was or was not a significant difference between the pretest and the posttest LASSI scores of the LSSP students in the fall 2012 semester, and (b) whether there were or were not significant differences among the correlations between the posttest LASSI scale results and student success.
