Whose System Is It, Anyway? Partnering with Faculty in Administrative System Projects

Administrative systems renewal is not something the faculty will ever get excited about, but the authors believe there is much that can be done to render the academic community more receptive and even supportive. In this article, the authors use the implementation of their student information system (SIS) at the University of Saskatchewan (and a new portal through which they will deliver its services) as a case study to illustrate how they approached this task. The authors describe the obstacles and opportunities that emerged from their collegial context and explain how they addressed them. The authors suggest that involving the faculty in planning and implementing administrative systems fosters campus-wide engagement and support. (Contains 1 endnote.)
