Orange County Outdoor School: Teacher's Guide.
Orange County Dept. of Education, Santa Ana, CA.
Divided into six sections, the guide provides helpful information for the teacher to prepare students to attend the Orange County Outdoor School. Pre-camp responsibilities section provides pre-camp preparation checklists for the principal, teacher, parents, school nurse, and outdoor specialist; a checklist for morning departure; discipline policy for students; and an organization chart of the Outdoor School. The preparation before arrival section is designed to provide uniformity in the preparation of all students attending the Outdoor School and consistency with goals and objectives stated in the California State frameworks in science, social science, art, health, environmental education, English language arts, and physical education. The on-site curriculum section outlines effective ways of teaching in the out-of-doors while hiking on the geology trail, chapparal trail, forest trail, and riparian trail. Background information expounds on the school's geography, history, plants, rocks and minerals, insects, weather, animals and birds, and provides a glossary. Special classroom activities include pre-camp activities (student log book, friendship circle, adopt a tree, vocabulary list) and post camp activities (nature bingo, favorite trail, new feelings, sample test with answer key). Appendices provide information for parents, fund raising activities, clothing list, and forms (master roll, medical, parent permission, evaluation). (ERB)
