World Perspective Case Descriptions on Educational Programs for Adults: Finland.
Virtala, Mirja; And Others
This document contains eight case studies of the following adult education programs in Finland: (1) an experiment combining classroom teaching and distance education and one that studied the effects of offering art courses at different levels in 1982-1985 (Virtala); (2) cooperative programs since 1981 between municipal and city levels in Mikkeli County (Kauppinen); (3) 12 experiments in vocational education conducted 1985-1987 (Salminen); (4) a developmental work research project at the Adult Education Centre for Salaried Staff during 1987-1988 (Koskela); (5) the Paperiliitto History Project (Kalela); (6) the circulating school for teaching automatic data processing instituted in 1986 (Suortamo); (7) basic instruction in information technology as the target of development work (Vepsalsinen); and (8) development of a training program for production groups in a metal industry company (Pulkkis). Each case study begins with a "face sheet" on which is recorded basic information about the program and the case study itself. The case studies that describe an educational program or center typically include information on the history of the entity, goals and objectives, students served, and curriculum content. Those case studies that describe an evaluation of a program or describe an experiment typically include background information, project goals and objectives, methodology used, population involved, and results of the project. In addition to the case descriptions, this document includes information on the World Perspective case study project, indexes of all cases by country and by category, and guidelines for contributors.
