This set of instructional materials provides secondary and postsecondary students with a state-of-the-art curriculum for the air conditioning and refrigeration industry that includes the many changes brought by new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. Introductory materials explain the use of this publication and provide the following: competency profile; instructional/task analysis; related academic and workplace skills list; tools, equipment, and materials list; and reference list. Each of the 16 instructional units includes some or all of the following basic components: objective sheet, suggested activities for the teacher, answers to assignment sheets, answers to written test, written test, unit evaluation form, teacher supplements, transparency masters, information sheet, student supplements, assignment sheets, and job sheets. Units of instruction are designed for use in more than one lesson or class period of instruction. Unit titles are as follows: orientation; occupational safety; hand tools; special tools and measuring; tubing and tubing applications; iron, plastic, and PVC pipe; soldering, welding, and brazing equipment; soft soldering; silver brazing; aluminum soldering, brazing, and epoxy repair; basic mechanical refrigeration; refrigeration system accessories; EPA requirements for refrigerant management and technician certification; refrigerants, lubricants, and desiccants old and new; refrigerant recovery, recycling, and reclaiming; and evacuating, pressurizing, leak testing, and charging.
