Reclaiming Children and Youth, v22 n2 p35-37 Sum 2013
Sometimes children are stressed about seemingly small events that escalate into problem behavior. In this article, an insightful teacher discusses restoration of emotional balance by mobilizing positive support from both school and family using A Response Ability Pathways (RAP) intervention. The RAP techniques and how they can be used are described in the case of one student to show how interpersonal and inner harmony were restored. Through this experience, the author was able to identify how emotions can override the logical brain during times of stress, and understand the science behind what was happening with this child. She also acquired a new awareness of how words, actions, tone, and non-verbal interactions can build or rupture relationships.
