The Influence of Reduction in Force on Educators in One Texas School District
Oge, Debra Reviere
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
The purpose of this phenomenological narrative study was to explore influences of a reduction in force (RIF) on educators in one Texas school district. The four questions that guided the research examined the relationships, job performance, supportive action and suggestions for improvement for districts contemplating a reduction in force. Nine educators were selected using purposeful sampling. Educators were chosen from elementary, middle and secondary levels. The findings indicated that the participants struggled with elevated stress levels in both family and job responsibilities and lack of district support. Findings also emphasized the importance of personal communication. This research provides district administrators and board of trustees a better understanding into the influence of a reduction in force relating to educators.
