History as Story: An Interview with Chris Crowe
Lesesne, Teri
Teacher Librarian, v31 n4 p58 Apr 2004
This is an interview between Teacher Librarian and Chris Crowe. Chris Crowe's first novel won the International Reading Association's Children's Book Award. He is a fellow professor of YA Literature and a past-president of the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of the National Council of Teachers of English. Some interview questions include: (1) Having your debut novel, Mississippi trial, 1955, win the International Reading Association's Children's Book Award must have been thrilling and a bit daunting. What was your reaction to the phone call letting you know you had won this prize? (2) You have a fairly full schedule, teaching classes in YA lit at Brigham Young University and raising a family. How does a typical writing day work within the confines of family and job? and (3) What can teachers and librarians do to help awaken readers to the power of books and reading, especially as they relate the important lessons of history? A brief list of books by Chris Crowe is included.
