Fellowships, Awards and Grants for Urban Studies.
Sable, Martin H.
Because it is a relatively new field and is categorized as an interdisciplinary one, urban studies both suffers and benefits in terms of grants and awards. Undergraduate scholarships do not exist, because urban studies is a graduate field. But, since urban studies involves all of the established social studies and a few natural science and technology areas, grants from these fields are available. Government and foundations are also interested in urban studies, which leads to general and specialized funding of projects. Fellowships, awards, and grants for urban studies and related fields are identified and described by source, qualifications, purpose, and financial data. Selected awards from annual publications such as "Awards, Honors, and Prizes,""Directory of Research Grants,""The International Foundation Directory,""Scholarships, Foundations, and Loans,""Annual Register of Grant Support," and "The Foundation Directory" are described. General and specialized newsletters which update these basic reference sources are listed. (JHP)
