Preschoolers' Emotional Control in the Disappointment Paradigm and Its Relation to Temperament, Emotional Knowledge, and Family Expressiveness.
Garner, Pamela W.; Power, Thomas G.
Child Development, v67 n4 p1406-19 Aug 1996
Evaluated a conceptual model that links temperament, emotional knowledge, and family expressiveness to preschoolers' emotional regulation ability by giving "disappointing" prizes after a task. Subjects were 82 preschoolers. Found that children's positive displays when presented the disappointing prize were inversely related to the temperamental dimension of emotional intensity and positively associated with children's understanding of emotion.
