Comparison of Postpartum and Nonpostpartum Depression: Clinical Presentation, Psychiatric History, and Psychosocial Functioning.
Whiffen, Valerie E.; Gotlib, Ian H.
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v61 n3 p485-94 Jun 1993
Compared postpartum women diagnosed with depression with nonpostpartum depressed group and two nondepressed groups. Postpartum depression tended to be relatively mild. Both depressed groups had high rates of positive psychiatric history and were equally likely to have recovered at six-month follow-up. Findings suggest little to distinguish postpartum depression from nonpostpartum depression beyond differences in symptom severity. (Author/NB)
