Training Programs: Preparing Ourselves (Section V). Evaluation: Establishing Our Effectiveness and Accountability (Section VI). Future Trends: Anticipating the Future (Section VII).
Lewis, Florence; And Others
This document consists of the fifth, sixth, and seventh sections of a book of readings on issues related to adult career development. The two chapters in the fifth section deal with training programs for adult career counselors. "The New Career Development Professional: A Training Model" (Florence Lewis and Janice Chiappone) examines changes that affect the career development professional and discusses how these changes have influenced individuals, organizations, and career development professionals. "Training Professionals for Career Development Responsibilities in Business and Industry" (Martin Gerstein and Neal Chalofsky) focuses on the theoretical and conceptual foundations for adult career development education, issues related to developing education and training programs, and elements of graduate degree programs. The one chapter in section six is "Evaluation: Measuring Effectiveness of Adult Career Development Practice" (Robert Bhaerman and Robert Campbell). It asks four general evaluation questions before examining the evaluation of adult career development programs. The one chapter in section seven is "Future Trends in Adult Career Development" (Donald Super). This chapter looks at socioeconomic trends (the aging population; the employment of women, ethnic minorities, and the handicapped; and the Third World) and presents a life-span perspective of adult career development. This life-span perspective looks at transitions from school to work, settling down, adapting to stability and instability, entering the maintenance stage, deceleration, and the adjustment to retirement. A final part of the chapter considers changing programs, methods, and measures for a changing society. (NB)
