This book is the prototype issue for a complete quarterly author-subject index to the international literature of film studies. The prototype issue tests the indexing methodology for the projected "Film Literature Index" by indexing and cross-referencing the contents of 28 representative periodicals that deal centrally or peripherally with films. The periodicals indexed in this issue are selected issues of journals published in 1971 ranging from "Cahiers du Cinema" and "Film Comment" to "Playboy." The subject index terms include the authors of articles, film titles, film stars, and names of film-makers. Each entry lists the subject index term, the title of the article, its author, the journal title, pages, and the date of publication. (CH)
