In this article, two old men make the link: real mathematics = functional mathematics. The two old men were referred to as Alpha and Beta. Alpha talks about the problem in so many schools, now, and that they have teachers who have either forgotten how to engage learners or who have never experienced the power. Beta speaks of a plague on teachers' unions that spend time demanding higher pay instead of focusing on restoring teachers' professional integrity.
