Engineering Education and Students' Challenges: Strategies toward Enhancing the Educational Environment in Engineering Colleges
Alkandari, Nabila Y.
College Student Journal, v48 n2 p221-230 Sum 2014
The main goal of this research is to gain an understanding of the challenges which have to be confronted by the engineering students at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University. The college has a large number of students, of which three hundred and eighty five were selected on a random basis for study purposes. The results show that most of the challenges encountered are associated with academic issues, faculty members and implementation projects. At times, problems may arise due to other factors such as psychology and non-ability to accomplish a certain task. The study proposes that these issues can be dealt with if student-teacher relationships are improved, more effective teaching strategies are developed and the students are provided with an environment that influences motivation and encouragement in them. The students will then overcome the challenges, gain the knowledge required, and become apt engineers in the future.
