Design for the Ages
Lippman, Peter C.
T.H.E. Journal, v40 n2 p26-29 Feb 2013
Given the differences in social, emotional, and physiological development among elementary, middle, and high school students, it should come as no surprise that collaborative spaces should be designed differently for each age group. The needs of younger students do not necessarily mirror those of their older peers. Architect and educator Peter Lippman believes that thoughtfully designed buildings can help students learn. In the second part of his article on collaborative spaces, he looks at how designs should differ depending on the age of the students, and also offers questions that districts should ask potential design teams. [For the first part of this two-part series, "Collaborative Spaces," see EJ1008746.]
