In this case study, the subject for discussion is the need to use teaching notes in order to add personality to case studies. Personality, it is said, is more important than policy, than demographics, than finances, or amorous peccadillos. Personality is essential. It is the interaction of people that capture our interest, yet, the question is asked--Why is it that so many medical case study writers fail to add a personality to their case studies? Instead, they write clinical puzzles for students and ask them to diagnose illnesses for phantoms. This article discusses the importance of personalizing case study stories as a method to engage students. This can produce greater learning than those cases without personages.
