A Survey of Parental Expectations about Grand Valley State Colleges.
Tweddale, R. Bruce
One hundred twenty-eight parents of first-time freshmen at Grand Valley State Colleges responded to a three-part questionnaire in fall 1973. Responses showed that: 80 percent were satisfied with their child's college choice; 41 percent felt they had some influence on that choice; over half attend church regularly; the three most frequently mentioned reasons for the college choice were small size, location, and curriculum and programs; the cluster college attended did not affect responses; and of the five college environment dimensions used (social, religious, intellectual, regulative, and supportive), parents had high intellectual and low religious expectations for the colleges.
