Recycled Renaissance
Armstrong, Wendy
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v109 n8 p48-49 Apr 2010
One of the author's goals this year was to turn all of the different pieces of research she has collected throughout the years into projects. This is when she thinks of bringing Renaissance quilling to her class. Quilling, or paper scrolling, uses strips of paper that are rolled up to create decorative designs. During the Renaissance, it was used as decoration and was inspired by filigree and ironwork. In this article, the author narrates her preparation for this lesson, her demonstration of the initial techniques the students will be using, and the impressive results of this project.
