Improving Basic Skills in Reading and Mathematics. Final Evaluation Report, E.C.I.A. Chapter 2, 1985-86.

The purpose of the Basic Skills portion of this project was to improve the reading and mathematics skills of students in the Junior High Schools Transition program, grades 7 through 9, in 27 junior high schools and 4 middle or extended elementary schools. The goal of the Mathematics Teacher Resources Development portion of the project was to increase the capability of teachers to provide effective mathematics instruction to students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. This evaluation report describes the project and the evaluation model that was used to assess it. A narrative summary is presented of the program evaluation, setting forth specific program objectives and discussing how they were dealt with, and the outcomes of actions taken to achieve them. Supporting data and information in the appendices include: (1) planning, monitoring and implementing (PMI) evaluation model; (2) results of standardized tests; (3) basic skills monitoring guide; (4) teacher evaluation of their perceived effects of the Basic Skills Program and of their application of the program; (5) teacher ratings of project workshops; (6) results of the teacher evaluation of the Basic Skills Program; (7) needs assessment of mathematics teachers; (8) faculty evaluation forms; (9) summary evaluation of certification courses; and (10) evaluation summary of inservices.
