These hearings of the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs opened with a statement by Senator McGovern, chairman. The Panel on Nutrition and Government then delivered its report and recommendations to the committee. The panel was concerned with surveillance, research, the training of professional personnel, and the overall organization of government to deal with food and nutrition policy. Testimony was then heard from human nutrition researchers, dieticians, public health nutritionists, biochemists, and officials from organizations related to or interested in the field of nutrition. Also included is a position paper submitted by the National Nutrition Consortium, Inc. on teaching nutrition in medical schools. Appended are hearings before the Panel on Nutrition and Government, which include both the testimony of various witnesses and assorted articles, bills, and other communications relating to their testimony.
