A World Full of Stories. An Annotated Bibliography of Folk Literature. Traditional Literature and Folklore in Library and Storytelling Programs.
Johnson, Paul Anthony, Ed.
The first volume of a projected series entitled "Traditional Literature and Folklore in Library and Storytelling Programs," this annotated bibliography was produced by graduate students in the Traditional Literature and Oral Narration class at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The bibliography is designed to provide librarians and teachers with information on specific topics related to traditional literature and folklore, guidelines for locating additional information, and suggestions for using the myths, legends, and tales in planning storytelling programs for audiences of any age. The bibliography is divided into 12 sections, 11 of which are topical. Each of these sections includes an introduction, an annotated bibliography of sources, a guide to locating information, and examples of library and storyhour programs for specific topics. A list of 65 references used in writing the introductions and compiling the bibliographies for each topic is provided in the final section. The following topics are covered: (1) "Images of the Moon"; (2) "Folklore of the Sea"; (3) "Legends of the Islands of Maui"; (4) "Oral Literature of Tonga"; (5) "Ghost Stories of Japan"; (6) "Trickster Tales of the Kantchil"; (7) "Russian Folktales"; (8) "Norwegian Folktales"; (9) "The Wee Folk of the British Isles"; (10) "Folktales of France"; and (11) "Greek and Roman Mythology."
