This annotated bibliography on the teaching of modern foreign languages is the product of a West German information dissemination system that is similar to ERIC. The bibliography is published quarterly and lists items compiled in conjunction with the ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics as well as with a number of institutions all over the world. Most of the 250 items in this issue appeared in 1977 and 1978, but some are dated earlier. Although the items deal primarily with modern language instruction, several other areas of linguistics are considered. The entries include mostly German, English, French and Russian titles. The publication is composed of three main sections: (1) an alphabetical author/title listing of items, including full bibliographic citations and subject index terms; (2) abstracts of the items in German; and (3) a subject index developed from the descriptor terms assigned to each entry. These three main sections are preceded by directions on the use of the bibliography and lists of sources cited--periodicals, publishers and institutions. The publication concludes with a cross-reference index of author/title to entry number. (AM)
