Integrating Global Games in the Elementary Physical Education Curriculum
Gross, Michael K.; Buchanan, Alice M.
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v25 n1 p8-12 Sep-Oct 2011
Global education units are great motivators for activity in elementary physical education because they can bring freshness and excitement to a physical education program. Additionally, children are provided with the opportunity to learn just how much physical education interacts with the other academic subjects that they study. This article presents a summary of an integrated Global Games unit that uses physical education and social studies to teach new and fun games to elementary students. The creation of integrated units provides classroom teachers and physical educators the opportunity to collaborate on and add to the learning experience for their students. These games provide opportunities for students to meet the National Standards for Physical Education (NASPE, 2004). (Contains 2 tables.)
