Multiple Intelligences and Language Learning Strategies: Investigating Possible Relations
Akbari, Ramin; Hosseini, Kobra
System: An International Journal of Educational Technology and Applied Linguistics, v36 n2 p141-155 Jun 2008
The present study was conducted to investigate the existence of any possible relationship between the use of language learning strategies and multiple intelligences' scores of foreign language learners of English. Ninety subjects participated in the study. To measure the participants' multiple intelligence scores, MIDAS, a commercially designed instrument, was used. Learners' strategy use was checked through SILL, Strategy use Inventory for Language Learning. The correlational analysis of the results indicated significant relations between the use of language learning strategies and IQ scores of the learners. Musical intelligence, however, did not correlate with any aspect of strategy use, and kinesthetic intelligence correlated only with memory learning strategies. (Contains 8 tables.)
