Teaching Jump Rope to Children with Visual Impairments
Lieberman, Lauren J.; Schedlin, Haley; Pierce, Tristan
Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, v103 n3 p173-178 Mar 2009
This article presents strategies for jumping rope for children with visual impairments. Giving choices related to the types of rope and the use of mats is important. In addition, using appropriate instructional strategies and modifications will make jumping rope a skill that the children will enjoy and will lead to their involvement in other physical activities. The goal is to promote jumping rope with family members and friends throughout life. An increased ability to jump rope may lead to improved levels of physical activity and motor skills, socialization, and self-concept.
