This article presents the keynote address given by Katherine J. Pinch at the 2008 Annual Symposium on Experiential Education Research (SEER). Pinch discusses the importance of evaluation research and argues that the realm of evaluation is where the margins of research and practice have the potential to intersect with the greatest ease. She challenges practitioners to step beyond evaluation by the numbers and to engage in evaluation research. She also challenges researchers to become partners with practitioners in this endeavor. Pinch stresses the need to be more open to qualitative approaches to data gathering and analysis, and to consider using a variety of models, approaches, methodologies, and data resources. She asserts that evaluation research should be systematic, documented, marketed, and disseminated.
