Spencer, Maria Gutierrez, Comp.; Almance, Sofia, Comp.
Written in Spanish and English, the booklet briefly discusses what parents can do to help their child learn at school. The booklet briefly notes the importance of getting enough sleep; eating breakfast; praising the child; developing the five senses; visiting the doctor; having a home and garden; talking, listening, and reading to the child; taking trips; having crayons, pencils, and toys; having the child ask questions; showing love and affection; developing self-confidence; preparing for school; caring for the child's teeth; having personal possessions; having good manners; and speaking clearly. The effects fear and an inferiority complex have on a child are discussed. Following a brief discussion of Mexican American food patterns is a listing of seven good practices to follow in preparing Spanish American foods. Also presented are 10 suggestions for lowering the caloric content and 7 practices for improving the nutritive value of Spanish American foods. A chart depicting the estimated nutritive value of two enchiladas and one taco is provided, along with an overview of the first Spanish American banquet. (NQA)
