Working with Adults with Exceptional Needs: A Guide for the Trainer.
Carlisle, Lynn, Comp.; Connelly, Trudy, Comp.
This guide, written for persons who conduct training sessions, workshops or other meetings attended by adults with exceptional needs, begins with a brief outline of the characteristics of adult learners. A list of 10 true-false statements is then presented to assess knowledge of disabling conditions and some common myths surrounding society's perception of them. Information about specific handicapping conditions is then presented for visual impairments, cerebral palsy, deafness, epilepsy, learning disabilities, mental retardation, and physical disabilities requiring use of a wheelchair. Each handicapping condition is briefly described, common myths about the condition are answered with factual information, and suggestions for the trainer in helping an individual with each condition are presented.
