Data on degrees conferred in 1981-1982 in Oklahoma colleges and universities are presented by sex and by field of study. Summary tables also show number of degrees and percentage distribution by racial and ethnic origin for each institution. Findings include the following: In 1981-1982, 18,725 degrees were conferred--4,560 associate degrees, 10,266 bachelor's degrees, and 2,996 master's degrees. At the bachelor's level, the number of degrees in computer and information sciences more than tripled from 1976-1977 to 1981-1982, while percentage increases also occurred for engineering, communications, business, and architecture. The following fields experienced decreases in degree production during the past 5 years: foreign languages, fine and applied arts, and biological sciences. Different trends were found at the master's and doctoral levels. One of the most noticeable trends was the increasingly larger share of degrees earned by women, particularly in the areas of business, engineering, and computer science. The percentage of academic degrees awarded to minority students varied from 29.4 percent at the doctoral level to 5.5 percent at the first-professional degree level. (SW)
