A Phenomenological Exploration of Mandatory Parental or Guardian Involvement with an At-Risk Student Intervention Program
Mason, Julia Christina
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Phoenix
The purpose of the qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the perception of parent or guardian involvement from a constructivist viewpoint during intervention programs located in Hampton 2 and Pickens counties. The current study involved 15 interviews via three sets of participants, six parents, five teachers and four administrators. The theoretical framework for this study included theories by Bloom (1956), Gardner (1993), and Maslow (1943). Three themes of significance were identified in the main study (expectations, parental responsibility and parental attitude). The theme of expectations especially in the area of communication is an essential element in allowing an at-risk intervention program to work. Communication was established as a significant theme during the pilot study. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
