Materials for a full-year course in oceanography are contained in this comprehensive teacher's guide. It provides an environmental approach emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of the study of aquatic science. Further, it allows for pupil interaction as well as independent study via investigations and experiments in the classroom, laboratory, and field. The teacher is provided with a scheme for presenting , coordinating, and evaluating each lesson. The plan of development incorporates: (a) rationale, (b) objectives--an outline of concepts, skills, and activities to be mastered, (c) subject matter background, (d) outline of subject matter including concepts and sub-concepts, (e) laboratory exercises, (f) vocabulary list, and (g) questions for consideration and/or research. Appendices include a master word list, tables of conversion factors, a large bibliography of books, films, periodicals, leaflets and technical reports, and a general and detailed course outline in oceanography with accompanying materials required for it.
