Nursing Applicant Interview Manual.
Kohn, Suzanne
This manual is a tool for use in an interview for nursing student selection that will assist in sizing up the fitness or suitability of the candidate for nursing. It also includes tools and methods that could be used in the initial interview to assess what factors will predict those students most likely to stay in an Associate Degree nursing program once admitted. An introduction discusses the method and results of a survey of nursing students to identify characteristics that could be ascertained in the interview. Chapter II describes the three broad categories into which an interview will be divided: social skills, concept of self, and motivation. The categories and their sub-levels developed for the interview process are described and charted. Chapter III focuses on interview evaluation. Chapter IV lists guidelines for the interview process and provides a suggested interview format. Chapter V is an overview of interviewing techniques. Sample interview questions are presented in chapter VI. Chapter VII contains two reference lists: books and journals from which exploratory questions in the interview were cited and an alphabetical listing of all references cited in the manual. Sample selection criteria and selection summaries are appended. (YLB)
