Supporting Student Presentations and Participation at Professional Conferences
McGuire, Margaret A.; Simpson, Cynthia; Duke, Lindsay Nicole
Young Children, v64 n3 p58-61 May 2009
Mentoring early childhood education students who are preparing to attend and make presentations at a conference can be rewarding for all involved. Often, students present current research they have conducted or share specific expertise in areas such as lesson planning, learning materials, or fund-raising. Successful mentoring, leading to successful presentations, requires teacher educators to plan, and plan again. This article shares the reflections of two Sam Houston State University teacher educators, Maggie McGuire and Cindy Simpson. Lindsay Duke, a recent graduate and student president of Sam Houston AEYC, offers tips for students. This article describes the PREPARE strategy that can assist educators in helping to make the conference experience beneficial and enjoyable for students.
