This directory contains information on the organization, trends, and current problems of teacher education in the 24 teacher-training colleges established in Africa since 1960 with the financial support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) (Special Fund) and technical assistance from United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The 24 programs described are in Afghanistan, Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria (Federal Territory of Lagos, Northern Region and Western Region), Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zambia. Information on each is listed under General Information, Administrative Structure Educational Structure, Preparatory Section, and Activities. Additional information on the governing and disciplinary boards, rules and regulations, curriculums, and the number of teachers, students, and graduates is also included for most of the colleges and institutes. Heads and chief technical advisors of the teacher-training colleges are listed. Appended is a list of 12 other current or future primary, secondary, or technical UNESCO-UNDP teacher-training projects in Asia, the Arab states, and Latin America. (JS)
