Mobile Technology and the Unsettled Ocean of Student Services
Flood, Tim; Black, Tom
College and University, v86 n3 p51-56 Win 2011
Mobile technology is one of several currents that upset the relatively placid world of admitting, enrolling, advising, serving, and graduating students. The authors have been involved with technology since they began in the profession. Technology is not really new to them. But with mobile technology, "so much" is new--indeed, foreign--to many teachers, and it is being delivered at an exponentially faster pace than other technological revolutions before it. The authors contend that the task of teachers as participants in this changing environment is to understand the altered world and respond. In this article, the authors share the mobile world experiences they have had and discuss six "laws" or rules of their profession. (Contains 1 table.)
