Wireless Technician
Tech Directions, v70 n6 p25-26 Jan 2011
One of the hottest areas in technology is invisible. Wireless communications allow people to transmit voice messages, data, and other signals through the air without physically connecting senders to receivers with cables or wires. And the technology is spreading at lightning speed. Cellular phones, personal digital assistants, and wireless networking are all examples of the wireless world. Wireless techs often deal with WLANs (wireless local-area networks). A WLAN links two or more computers without using wires. Many firms link their computers in this way. These networks are found at large college campuses, retail firms, health care corporations, warehouses, and more. Many cities and municipalities are getting into the wireless game as well, providing WiFi (wireless fidelity) connections outdoors and free for public use. This article provides everything students need to know about careers for wireless technicians--wages, responsibilities, skills needed, career advancement possibilities, and more.
