Improving Alaryngeal Speech Intelligibility.
Christensen, John M.; Dwyer, Patricia E.
Journal of Communication Disorders, v23 n6 p445-51 Dec 1990
Laryngectomized patients using esophageal speech or an electronic artificial larynx have difficulty producing correct voicing contrasts between homorganic consonants. This paper describes a therapy technique that emphasizes "pushing harder" on voiceless consonants to improve alaryngeal speech intelligibility and proposes focusing on the production of voiceless consonants before attempting to effect voicing.
