Faith-Based Partnerships Promoting Health
Rowland, Michael L.; Chappel-Aiken, Lolita
New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, n133 p23-33 Spr 2012
Churches or, as they are now more commonly referred to in some circles, faith-based organizations (FBOs), have a rich tradition of providing not only religious but educational and social service opportunities for their congregations and local community. Social service agencies, health care agencies, and educational institutions have long realized the advantages of partnering with local churches. Regardless of the focus (for example, job training, economic development, health), these often-delicate partnerships require people who possess strong strategic planning skills and sensitive facilitation and negotiation skills to execute successful partnerships. There are numerous instances of health care partnerships with FBOs. This chapter examines partnerships between faith-based organizations and health care institutions and health-related entities.
