The Relationship between Teachers' Five Perceived Factors of School Climate and Their Satisfaction at Selected (K-8) School Districts
Bitar, Maysa H.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, TUI University
This non-experimental quantitative study followed a correlational design that examined the relationship between five factors of school climate: a) leadership, b) professional development, c) salary, d) working condition, and e) teacher collaboration as measured by the modified version of Teacher's Perception of Factors Leading to Attrition (TPFLA) and teacher job satisfaction as measured by Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) in five selected urban school districts located in Northern California. The study was based on the assumption that teachers' job satisfaction would lead to retention where their satisfaction in their jobs would motivate them to stay in their workplace, whereas their lack of job satisfaction would lead to attrition where they look for an alternative place or career in which they would find higher satisfaction. The study also addressed the interaction among the constructs that may predict teacher job satisfaction. A demographic questionnaire also provided data that identified teacher gender, age range, race/ethnicity, education level, school size, grade level, percentage of English Learners in classroom, marital status and years of teaching experience. A convenience sample of 174 K-8 general education teachers teaching in selected school districts completed the survey.
