Preparation for Work in Business and Industry.
Mayfield, Eugene C.
The one most important ingredient that should be included in the training of Industrial/Organizational (I/O) students who will be entering business and industry is practical experience prior to graduation, a conclusion resulting from two surveys. The first survey was sent to recent I/O graduates newly employed in industry, and asked for an evaluation of their training. The second survey was sent to psychologists who were in a position to employ recent I/O graduates. Sepcial emphasis was given to what respondents felt was the one most important thing that would prepare graduates to work effectively in business and industry. The overall conclusions of both were identical. They felt practical experience should be obtained through internships and similar planned contacts. (BN)
