Research Review: Teens as Authors of Web Culture [and] The State of Arts Education in California
Brown, Susannah, Ed.
Teaching Artist Journal, v5 n4 p306-313 Oct 2007
In this Research Review, the authors first look at a recent study of online content creation by teens in America conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project ("Teens as Authors of Web Culture," Review by Keidra Chaney). The study both confirms and challenges some common beliefs about teens and technology, and raises questions about how teaching artists can intersect teen Internet use to support creative learning. Second, they consider a comprehensive study of arts education in the state of California ("The State of Arts Education in California," Review by Susannah Brown). This study collects data about arts practices in schools and compares these realities to state mandates and standards. The potential of teaching artists as a factor for innovative change is presented for consideration.
