Diversity-Affirming Ethics and Critical Epistemology: Institutional Decision Making in Community Colleges
Aragon, Antonette; Brantmeier, Edward J.
New Directions for Community Colleges, n148 p39-51 Win 2009
The purpose of this chapter is to continue and potentially expand the conversation about how a diversity-affirming ethical orientation and an understanding of critical epistemology might guide institutional decision making in community colleges in the direction of social justice. The chapter begins with a conceptual overview of the terms "diversity ethics" and "critical epistemology" and then discusses how these concepts might be practically used to think through the complexities of curriculum and instruction as well as institutional access and opportunity. The authors' overall intention is to add opportunities for discourse on ethics in decision making by community college practitioners and multicultural educators in general.
