Test Review: Beal, A. L. (2011). "Insight Test of Cognitive Abilities." Markham, Ontario, Canadian Test Centre
Colp, S. Mitchell; Nordstokke, David W.
Canadian Journal of School Psychology, v29 n1 p71-78 Mar 2014
Published by the Canadian Test Centre (CTC), "Insight" represents a group-administered test of cognitive functioning that has been built entirely upon the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theoretical framework. "Insight" is intended to be administered by educators and screen entire classrooms for students who present learning profiles that reflect high intellectual achievement, global cognitive impairment, or the presence of specific learning disabilities. In this article, the authors review the "Insight Test of Cognitive Abilities." A description of the test is included, followed by administration and subtest description. The technical adequacy, including the test development and reliability are reviewed. Limitations and recommendations are included. Overall, "Insight" has been marketed to be a useful group-administered tool that can allow educators a quick way to screen their classroom for students with exceptional cognitive abilities. The instrument, in no way, has purported to be a replacement for conventional individually administered measures of cognitive ability.
