Fraz ak Mo Ki Itil Angle-Kreyol Ayisyen = English-Haitian Creole Phrasebook with Useful Wordlist (for Kreyol Speakers).
Department of State, Washington, DC. Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.; Center for Applied Linguistics, Washington, DC.
This phrasebook with wordlist is designed for speakers of Haitian Creole who are immigrants to the United States. The English phrases presented are grouped by subject and selected for their directness, brevity, and relevance to the needs of newly-arrived residents. Most are presented in the form of brief, two-line dialogues. Phrases and supplementary vocabulary in the 19 topical units cover a wide range of situations and introduce new residents to the daily activities of American life. Words and expressions that accomplish the most important language functions of the unit are underlined. The book is intended not as a textbook but as a handy reference for immediate use when English words or phrases are needed. Unit topics include: coping with the language barrier; useful forms of etiquette; giving information about oneself; recognizing signs; weights and measures; using numbers; dealing with money; dealing with time; locating things; describing things and people; doing things; going places; conveying information; health; food; clothing; housing; jobs; and schools. English-Haitian Creole and Haitian Creole-English wordlists are appended. (MSE)
