The Institute for International Co-operation of the German Adult Education Association, otherwise known as the IIZ/DVV, is based in Bonn. Germany and has more than 40 years of service in various projects in different countries. The Institute is known for the publication of the journal "Adult Education and Development," the most widely disseminated adult education journal internationally, reaching out to about 20,000 subscribers in more than 150 countries. In this article, the authors, whom are staff members of IIZ/DVV, describe several examples where the Institute was involved in various literacy work. They also present the Institute's involvement in literacy work in Guinea under EFA and with the funding from The World Bank. The authors also cite the various constraints that they faced along the way with their literacy programs in Guinea. They also identify the principles for a successful literacy practice.
